It is important to note that the rankings are done on a power calculation where points are projected on state finish. Great dual and tourney teams with average balance don't score well in my system. Fortunately state is based on power points so the reflections are fairly accurate. To use the Wasson example once again, they didn’t win more than a few duals and no tournaments in 2006 but yet had three finalists and finished second in the state in class 5A. Most people dogged the pick. Although we may have been lucky to pick their finalists, the point worth noting is that small teams with great quality will appear higher in the rankings over some teams that have great depth but may lack some of the power points we use for rankings.
